I'm wondering if the Smilies set should be made more LEGO-ish.

OH THOSE SMILEYS! I though you meant an actually LEGO set. :P
I used Paint.Net to make it. It's a free picture editing program. It works really well and it's just as good as Photoshop I think. ;D

Yeah, definitely a good idea! (There already yellow so there just begging to make a full transformation :)).

I think it would be ok too make it a tiny bit bigger..
